Review
A good walk-up crowd joined our corporate friends on one of the hottest days the track has had to endure for some time. Sunscreen and water was the order of the day and from what I heard, the Ice Cream Man was kept busier than usual. The track suffered briefly under those same conditions and the dust tried it's best to take over. To say meeting #3 was eventful would be an understatement. Mostly good but the day was clouded by a couple of issues that the Club and SNZ will work thru to resolve the problems that arose.

The day kicked off with the bikes. A two Sidecar field proved to be a fast practice session especially for one, a new rider that impressed in all four heats. Race two saw a 'guest swing' from the club president. Ray's enthusiasm exceeded his ability but at the end of the day, it was in the spirit of the event and the team achieved the race win. Well done Ray. Solos put up an awesome spectacle with most races going down to the wire. The teams were well matched, incidents were minimal and the calibre of the riders was high.

Ministock field was full and the track was fast. The first race was cut short by one lap after 19M Ceri Boreham-Devos took a tumble that required her to be cut from the car as precaution. Happy to report she is well and her confidence has not been dented. Race two saw a similar fate on lap five as a couple of incidents had the race called so as not to endanger our future stars of speedway. A few deemed the track too dangerous but 16 drivers went on to feature in an accident free heat three where 4B Jarrod Lindsay picked up his second win.

No less than 19 Saloons from as far away as Gisborne no doubt to get some track time ahead of the NZ's in March. 272M Chris Cowling picked up wins in races one and three while race two was called early due to excessive dust. The K cars featured highly with 77K Rossco Cresswell earning a third, 10K Bob Leslie a second and 8K Kevin Williams led most of the third race only to miss out as an orange light meant his advantage was deleted and an in-form 272M was too fast to hold out. Overall the big field of Saloons were fantastic and the decision to end the second race early was correct.

The Stockcar class was joined by 4 Superstocks with a lot of flag racing the order of the day. That not to say it was all first to the flag stuff as members of the Crusaders and a couple of visitors used the bumper and stirred it up. Two race wins to flying 22M Les Hepworth but the result of the day was a popular win to 95K Ben Patrick.

The South Pacific Minisprint Championship was contested by a healthy 11 starters. 14H Jason Bryant dropped out early in the first as 1NZ Dayne Maxwell went on to win in convincing fashion. From then on it was not Dayne's day as 37K Jade Barnett, 3NZ Dan Hartigan and 57R Ben Vaughan proved reliable and fast and the championship ended up in that order. A very successful weekend for Jade after picking up 2nd place overall in the Bay Of Plenty Minisprint Champs the night before at Paradise Valley.

Production Saloons had reasonably good numbers and battled hard all day. In the first race, 48H Dave Pilkington drove away to a race win. Race two and 85H Doug Menzies held out the challenge from 23K Russel Hayes and race three went the way of local 68K Mike Frost.

The Streetstocks fronted with only a few and some backed up from racing at Rotorua the night before. These guys still gave it their all and did their best to put on a show for the fans. Race wins to the experienced 61K Wayne Whittaker, 23K Gary Smith and 12K Dan Curran.
