The Andrew Edwards Sprintcar Memorial - Saturday 21 April 6PM - rain date Sunday 22 April 5PM
The 2nd annual Andrew Edwards Memorial Race will be held Saturday 21 April at McDonalds Kihikihi Speedway. This meeting is dedicated to the late Andrew James Edwards, of Edwards Motorsport, who was killed in a Sprintcar accident on the 1st of January 2008. Since Andrew's passing, the Edwards family have kept his legacy alive, continuing to compete in Speedway events all around New Zealand with Father Mark & Brother Brian going on to win New Zealand Championships including 1NZ in Minisprints. Edwards Motorsport, along with a number of friends are working tirelessly to ensure this event lives up to last years highly acclaimed meeting, where 19 Sprintcars will qualify for the feature event in which pole is left empty for Andrew.
This meeting also doubles as Dean Brindle's final race meeting in New Zealand. It is a honour that Dean retires his illustrious open wheel career where it all began, Kihikihi, some 26 years earlier.

Press Release - 15th September 2017
"In recent weeks there have been a number of concerns held by both the Promoters and Competitors surrounding decisions made by the Board of Directors of Speedway New Zealand.
One of these included the compulsory application of a Safety Test to be completed by every competitor prior to being permitted to obtain their Speedway New Zealand License.
This was withdrawn by Speedway New Zealand almost immediately given the surge of complaints they became exposed to from all of those affected.
The lack of consideration and transparency exhibited by Speedway New Zealand gave cause to have the majority of club and track promoters request an urgent Special General Meeting with the Board of Directors and the CEO of Speedway New Zealand to discuss these issues.
Unfortunately Speedway New Zealand have elected to not chair this meeting based on legal advice obtained.
To avoid further disruption to the impending speedway season for all concerned, the unanimous decision from club and track promoters is to meet at a suitable time in the near future to discuss and ensure the future of our sport is managed appropriately”
